Students advised not to respond to text service
Created: Tue 20th Mar 2012 at 13:37:09, Last Update: Tue 20th Mar 2012 at 13:37:53

Today some colourful wristbands have been found around the perimeter of the school site. These carry details of a "service" called Ask Jerry. These urge people to text their name and town to a number, to receive a text back containing information about them.

I understand this phenomenon has been seen elsewhere in the country, and I would urge students very strongly not to use the service for two reasons:

1. It is unwise to give your name, town and telephone number to anyone.

2. The cost of the service is very high.

I would ask parents to discuss the matter with their children and take care to ensure they do not use the service.

Parking reminder
Created: Wed 14th Mar 2012 at 20:19:08

Further problems have been reported this week by inconsiderate parking on High Street, and in particular around the entrance to our main car park, where parents have been picking up and dropping off, and using the car park entrance to turn round. This is a busy area before and after school and we need to keep the safety of students as our primary concern. Parents are therefore requested not to . . . Click here for full article.

Performance Tables January 2012
Created: Thu 26th Jan 2012 at 11:55:42, Last Update: Thu 26th Jan 2012 at 12:59:25

The annual school and college performance tables have been published today. Once again these demonstrate that the outcomes at HGS are truly outstanding by any measure, and we remain among the very best schools in the country.

There is a lot of data in the tables and we have performed very well in all aspects. For example we have the third highest average GCSE points score per student in Yorkshire, and  this is the 24th highest score in England. Some other highlights include:

Very low absence rates: lowest in Kirklees;

100% of students made the expected rate of progress in English and maths. This is impressive for any school and shows that our students don't just do well because they are already high attainers when they join us, but they build rapidly on that and add value, so to speak. Only 24 schools have achieved this according to today's tables;

Outstanding grade profiles: Highest average points scores (per student and per entry) in Kirklees at GCSE and A level.

Everyone associated with the school has contributed in some way to this success. Congratulations are due to one and all.
