GIRLS SPORTS 2009/2010

ROUNDERS:
Well done to all who took part in the rounders competition last week. Clarke finished second overall, a fantastic result.

HOCKEY:

The hockey got off to a fairly shaky start as our seniors team was depleted but the players who turned up played amazingly; their dedication and perseverance was outstanding. Catherine Tyldsley, Georgina Barry and Fiona Stuart-Clark covered the whole pitch and we came third overall, a fabulous achievement considering the lack of players. The inters side played very well with some great defence from Emma Harris and some length of the pitch runs from Katherine Muller-Jones helped to create opportunities to shoot. Clarke juniors worked very hard with some effective defence from Jemima Beaumont and Julie Zhao and effective attacking from Charlotte Hoyle and Isobel Smith. Ellen Huison managed to cover the whole pitch and we ended up coming third overall.

NETBALL:

The netball season started with the seniors team and I was pleased to find that we had more than enough players. We played well, with a great attacking pairing of Catherine Tyldsley and Sarah Lane. Chrissie Nettleton and Georgina Barry also played very well. Our inters also played very well as a team and again it was lovely to have enough players for two full teams, the team waiting to play giving lots of support to those on the pitch. Megan Enevoldson got some great goals and ensured our victory over Priestley. Two wins and a draw (only a last minute goal stopping us from winning against Bronte!) meant that we won the inters competition convincingly. Finally the junior team got their chance. Everyone played well and we had a great turn out. Charlotte Hoyle and Samaira Mahmood made a great team in attack and Isobel Smith and Rebecca Shotton were energetic centres, guiding us to two victories and a narrow defeat to Bronte resulting in an excellent second place.

SWIMMING GALA:

On one of the coldest days of the year, with snow outside, the swimming gala was held in a lovely warm pool. We had full teams for all events and the level of participation was commendable, including the spectators shouting themselves hoarse in support of the competitors. The girls had some great wins and some narrow defeats but everyone tried their best and it was a very enjoyable day. Special note should go to Catherine Tyldsley and Jemima Beaumont for helping to organise the smooth running of the Clarke House teams.
