POETRY READING:
A new event this year, the poetry reading competition was an enjoyable addition to the house events schedule. Clarke performed very well in all stages of the competition, coming joint second overall. Our junior team of Alicia Roberts, Jenny Hurst and Ben Fisher all performed fluently, remembering lines and acting the poems out effectively to secure us a firm second place. Our inters, Connie Halstead, Ellie Scorah and Manahil Aziz were excellent, Ellie in particular creating an appropriate atmosphere and perceptively using movement and gesture to bring the poem to life and lead us to second place. Vikram Nagarajan, Felicia Doubell and Fiona Stuart-Clark came a close third in the seniors’ stage of the competition with some rousing performances! The final stage of the proceedings was the group reading. Vikram, Felicia, Connie and Ellie worked very well together, creating a choral piece and using torches imaginatively to create a spooky atmosphere, even managing to scare Mr Keenleyside with their movement around the room; very impressive!
